companies to ship product at a certain rate and they have an inventory of
boxes to ship product in. Sometimes the box is bigger than the product,
but it's cheaper than having to go out and buy another box (and store it) or
spend time custom packaging product in an envelope on an as needed
basis. Plus, envelopes are more likely to get bent or damaged in mailing,
resulting in an unhappy customer and loss of product for the shipper.
Boxes prevent the likelihood of damage from occurring better. Next, time is money. As companies grow, so do their expenses and they
need to maximize your manpower. To that point, an automated phone
system frees up an employee to do other more productive things, like
packing product in boxes and shipping it off to customers. If you don't want to use a company with an automated system find another
vendor to do business with. FYI, Coz and SpecialtyZ use boxes to ship gaskets too (I've received
them personally) and their rates are very similar.
